Opening Session Speaker & Film Discussion - Soul Food Junkies

 

  Byron Hurt is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, published writer, anti-sexist activist, and lecturer. He is also the former host of the Emmy-nominated television show, REEL WORKS with BYRON HURT. Since the mid-1990’s, he has been traversing the country and parts of the world, using his craft, his voice, and his writings to broaden and deepen how people think about gender, race, sex, violence, music, visual media, and with his latest film, food justice.  Hurt’s professional films include I AM A MAN:  Black Masculinity in America; Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes; and Soul Food Junkies.

 

Thursday Luncheon Speaker        

Cheryl “Sparkle” Mosley also known, as the “STORY DOVE” is a professional storyteller, writer, teaching artist, motivational speaker, emcee and workshop facilitator that entertain, educates, motivates and enlightens all ages for all occasions.  Sparkle is a former National President of the National Association of Black Storytellers, Inc. (NABS) and former State President of the North Carolina Association of Black Storytellers, Inc. (NCABS). She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management from the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL.  and is the former producer and host of the Time Warner Cable TV show Express It!and the weekly WGIV radio show “Story Dove.”
